Who are the best people to talk to in this school about my child’s difficulties with learning/Special Educational Needs and/or disabilities (SEND)?


Summary of Responsibilities

The SENDCo and Line manager for SEND Kathryn Ross supported by a team of specialist teaching assistants

The SEND Team is responsible for:

  • co-ordinating provision for students with special educational needs
  • identifying a teaching assistant to act as a key worker for your child
  • liaising with and advising teachers
  • managing other classroom staff involved in supporting vulnerable learners
  • overseeing the records on all students with Special Educational Needs
  • working closely with parents ensuring you are:involved in supporting your child’s learning
  • involved in reviewing how they are doing
  • part of the process of planning ahead for them
  • contributing to the in-service training of staff so that teachers and support staff can help your child so that they make good progress
  • Meet with you 3 times a year – listening to your views and together with your child planning and reviewing targets that will support their learning
  • implementing a programme of Annual Reviews for all students with an Educational Health and Care Plan
  • overseeing the smooth running of transition arrangements and transfer of information for Year 6, Yr 11 and Yr 13 students
  • liaising sensitively with parents and families of pupils on the SEND register, keeping them informed of progress and listening to their views
  • liaising with the school’s Inclusion Governor, keeping them informed of current issues regarding provision for students with SEND
  • liaising closely with other professionals to help support your child’s learning e.g. Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Educational Pyschologist



Teachers will work hard to:

  • check the progress of your child and identify, plan and deliver additional support as necessary working closely with the SEND team
  • provide feedback to your child on what they have achieved and how they can progress
  • know the needs of the students (student passports) and plan their lessons accordingly to meet these needs

Tutors, Key Stage Leaders, Pastoral Support Assistants and Raising Standard Leaders

  • Closely track progress and liaise with teachers and the SEND team if a student is not making expected progress

SEND Governor

  • Liaising closely with the SENDCo and Lead for Inclusion to ensure there are clear processes and procedures in place for students with SEND
