Industrial action on Tuesday 5 July, 2016
We have been notified that there is planned industrial action by the NUT (National Union of Teachers) on Tuesday 5 July. NUT members are striking about their pay, conditions and workload. We have evaluated the impact of this strike action and, as the majority of teaching staff at Abbeywood are members of the NUT, we have made the reluctant decision to close the school to students on this day. Only members of the NUT will be on strike and all other staff will be in school as normal.
We appreciate that this industrial action may cause difficulties for families with regard to childcare. Therefore to support our parents, carers and families we are happy to accommodate any student in school during the normal school day (8.25am-2.35pm) on 5 July where childcare arrangements are particularly problematic. However, this may involve crossing a picket line at the entrance to the school. Any parent/carer wishing to send their son or daughter into school on 5 July must inform us no later than 1pm on Monday 4 July so we can make the necessary arrangements to ensure all students are safe and well cared for. Any student being sent to school on 5 July will need a packed lunch and will be expected to wear correct school uniform as normal.
We apologise in advance for any inconvenience the NUT strike may cause and, as always, we hugely appreciate your ongoing support for the school.
Yours sincerely
David Howe
