Abbeywood Community School

Guided Reading Year 7 - 9

Despite these strange times and not being in school, we would like to continue with our drive on encouraging reading with our students, as we believe it can make a meaningful difference in the future life chances of all. We think it is so important!

This term, we are reading Goldfish Boy by Lisa Thompson and are doing this via our year group Google Classrooms. Each chapter has been recorded on a video, there is an accompanying powerpoint that highlights key vocabulary and helps with understanding the meaning of the text, and is completed with a fun quiz to check understanding.  Students do not need a copy of the text, although may want to consider ordering a copy to read along with the teacher.

For next week, an introductory powerpoint has been uploaded for all students to watch so that they are clear on how our virtual guided reading will work. It is an expectation that all students will view this during next week, at a time of their choosing.

From Monday 25th January, students should:

  • watch and engage with one presentation a week (where the chapters will be read). Each presentation is approximately 15 minutes long.
  • complete the relevant quiz by Friday 2:35 p.m. of that week.

All resources will be available via their year group Google Classroom and tutors will be able to share the success of your child in the quizzes.
