Morgan Sindall Construction’s Cardiff and Bristol business has commemorated the final structural installation at Abbeywood Community School in Stoke Gifford, Bristol ahead of schedule, celebrating the milestone with a steel signing ceremony on 27 June.

On 9th July, Abbeywood School hosted Dr Michael Smith and his team of tech experts when they brought their travelling roadshow to the Engineering Centre for the day. Over 140 Y8 and Y9 students from Abbeywood, Winterbourne and Patchway took part in a morning of presentations about the engineering industry and an afternoon of interactive sessions where they got to try their hand on some pretty advanced technology..

We were pleased to welcome Simon Connell, CEO of the Baker Dearing Educational Trust, and Jack Lopresti, Conservative MP for Filton and Bradley Stoke, to the Engineering Centre at Abbeywood on Friday 30th June.  You can find out more about the Baker Dearing Educational Trust here. We were sad that Lord Baker was unable to join us due to ill health as he has championed engineering education for the last 15 years.  Our visitors’ involvement was influential in some local employers choosing to come and talk about partnering with us on an ongoing basis.

In March we held our production of Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical. Students and staff had been rehearsing since September and were excited to showcase their hard work. We were blown away by the talent and dedication of the cast and crew and hope that those involved are extremely proud of what they have achieved.

Congratulations to Harriet J (Athena) in year 7 who was the overall winner and performed a hilarious comedy magic sketch as her alter-ego ‘Betty’. Runners up were Ines A (Apollo) and Tia-Rae W (Hera) who performed a beautiful duet of ‘The One That Got Away’ by Katy Perry with some stunning harmonies. The second runner-up was Amber M (Zeus) who gave us a fantastic rendition of a Musical Theatre number from ‘Heathers’, with choreography and singing that wowed the whole audience!  A huge thank you and well done to all students who took part and to all staff who supported the show in any way!

On Thursday 14 June, the whole of year 8 were off timetable for the day taking part in a carousel of events. The aim of the day was to improve resilience and aspiration, as well as looking at developing revision skills and staying safe online with the police. The effort and engagement throughout the day was exemplary, with all the visitors commenting on how well behaved the students were. Well done Year 8!
