• Monday 3 July 2023 Simon Connell & Jack Lopresti visit the Engineering Centre at Abbeywood We were pleased to welcome Simon Connell, CEO of the Baker Dearing Educational Trust, and Jack Lopresti, Conservative MP for Filton and Bradley Stoke, to the Engineering Centre at Abbeywood on Friday morning. We were sad that Lord Baker was unable to join us due to ill health as he has championed engineering education for the last 15 years. Our visitors’ involvement was influential in some local employers choosing to come and talk about partnering with us on an ongoing basis.

• Thursday 25 August 2022 Students continue their success with strong GSCE Results Congratulations to the class of 2022 at Abbeywood Community School who have achieved strong GCSE results, with grades 7-9 across a wide range of subjects, as well as many grade 5-9 grades in English and Maths. An impressive 63% of students achieved 5-9 in English, which is above the national average, while 50% of students achieved 5-9 in Maths.

• Friday 20 May 2022 Year 11 Thank you for your support so far this exam season. Our year 11 students are doing brilliantly and we are so proud of them and their positive attitude. With this in mind, we have taken the decision to allow students to study from home during from next week where they have lessons where all exams/coursework has been completed. We are still expecting students to attend lessons where they have not completed all exams (this is still the majority of lessons). Please see the timetable below for next week that reflects these changes. Please note that students will be provided with a study room if they choose to remain in school or if they are dependent on taxis/ other transportation. It is also really important that they sign in and out at main reception. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

• Wednesday 19 January 2022 Changes to the self-isolation period for those who test positive for COVID-19 Changes to the self-isolation period for those who test positive for COVID-19 - came into effect in England on Monday 17 January and applies to all positive cases, regardless of vaccination status. People who are self-isolating with COVID-19 have the option to reduce their isolation period after 5 full days if they test negative with an LFD test on both day 5 and day 6 and they do not have a temperature. For example, if they test negative on the morning of day 5 and the morning of day 6, they can return to their education or childcare setting immediately on day 6.

This means that for all staff and students who have tested and reported a positive LFD result will no longer be advised to get a confirmatory PCR test. • Monday 18 October 2021 Important Message- Year 11 to remain at home Tuesday 19 October 2021 Unfortunately, we have had growing numbers of cases of Covid in year 11, which has meant we have been in contact with Public Health England regarding next steps. As tomorrow is a House day, we have been advised not to allow year 11 to mix with the rest of the students in the school. We are also concerned that having year 11 working together all day tomorrow may increase cases further within the year group. Therefore, we have taken the difficult decision to ask year 11 students to work from home tomorrow and work on revision for their forthcoming mock examinations. This is not a decision we have taken lightly but we hope that this, coupled with half term, will mean that we do not have rising cases over the holidays and that we can all return in November ready for mock examinations. There is guidance on the Y11 Google Classroom to support students with their learning and revision for the forthcoming exams. A starting point would be to create a revision plan using the booklet posted last

Students have achieved incredibly well across the full range of GCSE and Level 2 qualifications, outcomes have been strong but so has the progress of our students from their starting points. Students have responded positively to the dedication of staff and we are delighted that students have gained some outstanding results. Students will be continuing at Abbeywood or leaving for new destinations with academic success and as bright, mature and responsible young people. • Monday 19 July 2021 Year 10 - Important Information We have been advised that there have been seven confirmed cases of COVID-19 in your child’s year group at Abbeywood Community School. This has resulted in 106 students being required to self-isolate in addition to a number of staff self-isolating.  This has placed significant pressure on our ability to provide a high quality provision to both students in school and those self-isolating. Following a risk assessment with local public health, we are therefore asking all of Year 10 to stay at home and access their learning remotely until the end of term.

• Thursday 20 August 2020 'Superb' GCSE Results This morning Year 11 students at Abbeywood Community School are celebrating their excellent GCSE results. These superb results are a reflection of the incredible hard work and dedication shown by staff and students, along with wonderful support from our parents and carers. The 2020 GCSE outcomes have been awarded based on school assessment which were calculated using a rigorous standardisation process and they show our school continues on its upward trajectory of improvement. We are very proud of all our students’ achievements as they have done themselves and us proud in this challenging year. You will be able to use Class Charts to keep track of your child’s behaviour, view attendance records, access their weekly timetable, view assigned home learning tasks, track scheduled detentions, create wellbeing submissions and view announcements from school. If you have more than one child, you can access Class Charts information about your children from a single, centralised parent account. • Monday 6 July 2020 Meet Bonnie & Jake - Abbeywood School Dogs Many studies have shown that a school dog can have a very positive effect on students and there are many examples of how a dog can support a school community, including: encouraging students to attend school; helping students to cope with examination stress; helping to foster a sense of responsibility; improving reading confidence by having students read to them and generally bringing a warmth to the school which makes the place feel happier. Through contact with a dog, children can benefit educationally and emotionally, and develop empathy and nurturing skills. Animals in school have been shown to reduce anxiety, promote positive behaviour, increase social skills and build confidence and self-esteem.
